235 Make Decisions According to God’s Will for Your Life

Make Decisions According to God’s Will for Your Life

We can make our plans, but the LORD determines our steps.
Proverbs 16:9 (NLT)

God has a specific plan for our lives and He gives us free will, as well as the guidelines of His Word and the witness of the Holy Spirit to make choices. The devil will never ease up on trying to confuse our decisions. But be encouraged because He who is in us is greater than He who is in the world (I John 4:4).

God gave each of us a free will, which means that we can make our own choices. Although there are times that life stretches us and we might well welcome having the weight of choice taken off our shoulders, God in His wisdom has given use the capacity to choose. God won’t make our choices for us. He wants us to mature, increasing in our knowledge, understanding and ability to make wise choices. We do so by persistently renewing our minds and setting the Word of God as the final authority in our lives. This is the key to wisdom and sound decisions.

The two ways most people make decisions are by reasoning or by emotion. Both of these approaches can have devastating impacts on our destinies. God has equipped us with His Spirit and His Word so that we don’t have to be slaves to our emotions or our reasoning when making decisions.

God gave us precepts in the Word to guide our decisions. It’s His will that we make our decisions according to those precepts. Only through God’s wisdom can we make sound decisions. Decisions that are not based on God’s Word will lead us away from the will of God for our lives. As we allow our lives to be led by the Word and the Spirit of God, putting aside reason and emotion, our decisions will prove wise. We will be able to handle every situation we face according to the Scriptures. When we seek wisdom by meditating on the Word and then apply it to our lives, we will make sound decisions, be successful and walk in victory.

It is God’s desire that we make choices that reflect our personal commitment to Him. But He cannot and will not force us to do so. It is up to us to align our emotions and our wills with the Word in order to make quality decisions. So every decision we make, the way we dress, the way we have a conversation with family and friends should be in line with our conscious decision that we are committed to live according to His will for our life.

Will you choose to seek God’s Word and the leading of the Holy Spirit as you make decisions? Now, that’s the choice-driven life!
