Why Do People Live In Fear?

“Wherefore, I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God,
which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
2 Timothy 1:6,7

In the above passage, Paul is ministering to Timothy. Paul lays hands on him and the power of God comes on Timothy. Paul tells Timothy, “You are supernaturally enabled to prevail over this challenge in the worldly realm. Now stir up the gift of God that is in you, Timothy, for God has not given you a Spirit of fear, but of power, of love, and of a sound mind.”

If you are a Spirit-filled believer, Paul’s words to Timothy apply to you. You are different than people in the world. They are fearful because the only power available to them is their own natural strength. That’s all they have. I remember times when I was gripped with fear to the point that it paralysed me. I felt that I would never be able to reach the fullness of all God had for my life. Those were unhappy times.

Fear is faith in the negative. Faith in the negative produces death. The Word of God says that our enemy is the god of this world, the devil. The devil plots to bring about the opposite of God’s purpose for our lives. The devil’s purpose is to steal everything from us: our hope, our dreams and our vision. He wants to destroy our future and even more importantly, our future in eternity. His greatest weapon against us is fear.

In John 10 Jesus says: “I am the Door; anyone who enters in through Me will be saved. He will come in and he will go out (freely), and will find pasture.” And then Jesus says this about our enemy: “The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. Jesus again assures us that: “I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance [to the full, till it overflows]” John 10:9,10 (AMP). Faith in God produces abundant, overflowing life.

You and I don’t have to live in fear. Giving fear a foothold will ultimately destroy us. We are supernaturally enabled with power that is far beyond us. We are empowered to recognize the seeds of fear and cast them out immediately. When the devil comes against you, remember God has not given you the Spirit of fear, you have been given a Spirit of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. So be strong in the power that is beyond you and be strong in the Lord.

Will you choose to exercise your supernatural capability over fear? Now, that’s the choice-driven life!
