How To Pray For Your Destiny

by Olga Hermans

To truly understand life itself, you have to realize that there are 2 ways to live your life. There is the one that comes forth from the Word of God and then there is the one that people find while being in the world doing their own thing. Not bothered by what God would think about it or even thinking about the fact that God would have a plan for your life.

The most valuable truth you can learn about your Heavenly Father is that He is a good and loving Father who has made every provision for you to have everything you need.

God has a way when it looks like there is no way. You have dreams and desires, things you want to accomplish, situations you want to see changed. But so often you gave up on your dreams, because it took so long, or because you tried and failed, or because you went through a disappointment.

You may have become complacent. Maybe you are not pursuing what God has put in your heart. But I want to encourage you today to get your fire back. You have to stay filled with hope. It may be taking a long time, but God is a faithful God. He is saying that no matter how long it’s been, no matter how impossible it looks, if you will stay in faith, your time is coming.

God wants you to ask Him for big things. Ask Him for those hidden dreams planted in your heart. Ask Him to fulfill your highest hopes and dreams. God wants to bless you. He wants to enlarge your territory. God expects you to ask. If you are not asking for God’s favour, His blessings, His increase, then you are not releasing your faith.

There is nothing wrong with big prayers. Dare to pray: “God, I’m asking you to not just supply our needs but to bless me in such a way that I can be a blessing to others!” Ask Him for your marriage to not only to continue to exist, but to grow happier and more fulfilled than ever before.

Ask God for your children to become strong and mighty in the land, leaders in their own field and they will fulfill their God-given destiny! Jesus said: “According to your faith it will be done unto you!” So, if you pray a little, you will receive a little.
Maybe you always pray for other people’s dreams to come to pass. Ask God in your quiet time, when it is just between you and God, dare to ask Him for your deepest hopes, your greatest dreams.

seperation How To Pray For Your DestinyThere are times that God wants to talk to you and He might separate you so that you can spend more time with Him. Those are the moments when He reveals His presence, His purpose, His plan. There are times that you might feel isolated from your friends and relatives; that’s good!

When David was isolated and separated from his family tending sheep, God gave him victories nobody else observed. The most important thing that you can do during your moments of isolation is to reach for the One who is waiting for you. He wants to be pursued. He craves a relationship with you.

‘Call to me and I will answer you. I’ll tell you marvelous and wondrous things that you could never figure out on your own.’ Jer 33:3 Msg

You probably know Jabez in the Old Testament right? 1Chron.4:9-10 He called on God because of his own name. His name meant “pain, suffering, trouble and heartache”. In those ancient times, a person’s name was much more significant than it is today.

Can you imagine how Jabez must have felt. Every time someone said, “Hey Jabez,” they were saying, “Hey trouble, Hey sorrow. Hey pain.” We don’t know why his parents gave him this name. His name might have affected his self-image and made him feel insecure and inferior.

The Bible tells us that Jabez was more honourable than any other in his family. It doesn’t tell us much about him except one little prayer he prayed. From this prayer, we can see there was something special about Jabez. In spite of all that was happening to him, he didn’t get bitter, Jabez cried out to God and said, “God, I am asking that You would bless me indeed.”

prayerofJabez How To Pray For Your DestinyThat is a bold prayer if you ask me. He said: “God, I have a lot of things coming against me. Life hasn’t treated me fairly. But, God, I know You are a good God. I know You have a great plan for my life. So, I am calling on You to bless me indeed.

He didn’t ask for God to bless him a little bit. No, Jabez said: “God, I’m asking for abundance. I’m asking for an overflow of Your goodness. Bless me indeed.

Jabez shook off his defeated mentality. He said in effect, “It doesn’t matter what someone has named me. It doesn’t matter wat it looks like in the natural. I know who I am. I am a child of the Most High God, and my destiny is to be blessed.”

Jabez went on to ask God for more and said: “God, enlarge my territory.” He was saying, “God, go beyond the norm. Go beyond my borders. Give me extraordinary favour. God, let me see abundance in my life.”

Jabez was calling out to God and expecting God to answer him and we all know that God Himself strong on behalf of Jabez and told him marvelous and wondrous things that he could not have ever figured out on his own.

Maybe you have made poor choices. You feel that you are supposed to just endure life. But God is saying, “If you’ll ask, I’ll give you a new beginning. If you call out to me, I will tell you marvelous and wondrous things that you could never figure out on your own”.

Maybe you’ve been hurt in a relationship. Somebody did you wrong and it didn’t work out. No matter what’s coming against you, if you will be bold enough to ask, the rest of your life can be better than ever before. Your future is much better than your past.

God wants you to appreciate who He made you to be and to develop what He gave you. He made you one of a kind, an original and just like Jabez; you have a unique destiny upon this earth.

He most likely appreciated himself through everything that he had experienced and called out to God for favour and abundance upon his life. I believe in you and you can do the same.

Olga, this article is definitely what I needed to read tonight. I love the book on Jabez…we did it as a special Bible Study several years ago…. I am going to re-read it… I also read a chapter from Joyce Meyer this morning talking specifically about prayer and how important it is that we don’t worry about praying “like someone else” but that we should have that personal relationship with God and speak heart to heart with Him, not trying to compare ourselves to others.. Thanks Olga & God Bless!

  15. Beth Heilman says:

Wow Olga!! This is a powerful article. There were parts of it that brought me to tears. So often we’re taught growing up that it’s selfish to ask God for anything for ourselves, that all our prayers should be for the healing and uplifting of others. Nothing could be further from the truth as you so beautifully point out. God wants us to ask for great things, to dream big dreams and He wants to give them to us. We need to make our top priority having a relationship with Him and ASK knowing He will answer. Thank you, thank you!
