Do You Want To Be Promoted?

For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south.
Psalm 75:6

Have you ever felt stuck? Or maybe you’re feeling stuck right now.   Some people are comfortable where they are.  They are not moving forward, and they are stuck even though they don’t realize it.

But I am talking to those who realize they are stuck, and want to progress because they desire to do more and achieve more in their lives.

Is that you?

Let me share a principle with you for going from stuck to unstuck.  This principle is easy to apply.  It will get you going again, and keep you going.

I am talking about the Law of Promotion, which says: “If you want to be promoted to the next level, you must become overqualified for your current position.” Isn’t that a great revelation?

I can testify to the truth of this principle, believe me. When we came to Canada from The Netherlands, we continually had to make choices based on the Law of Promotion; otherwise, we would have stayed in a level that was not meant for us.   We knew God had something great in store for us, yet we still became stuck many times along the road.

So, ask yourself this question: How do you know you are stuck?

The answer is simple.  First, compare these three levels: 1) where you started, 2) where you are right now, and 3) where you really want to be.

Next, ask yourself, “How long have I been where I am?”

Finally, ask yourself, “How much do I want to get unstuck? How far am I willing to go to achieve my promotion?”

There is a verse in the Bible that clearly tells us what we need to do in such situations. Jesus said, “Go the extra mile. And if anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him two [miles]” (Matt 5:41 TAB).

At the time when Jesus said to go the second mile, the region was under Roman occupation.  If a Roman soldier told you to carry his supplies or equipment, you had no choice but to obey.  Jesus is saying to go beyond what you are required to do.  Double it!

How about you?  When a superior gives you a task, do you do only what is required of you?  If you want to become overqualified for your current position, you must seize the opportunity to go the extra mile.   That shows Christian character at work.  Moreover, if you will go that extra mile with no fanfare, you will be exercising your integrity by doing the right thing when no one else sees it.

How much do you want your promotion? God has a place for you and only you.  If you are stuck, then get unstuck! It is your responsibility and your opportunity!

Will you make a choice to take advantage of every opportunity to go the extra mile?

The Most Important Choice You Can Make:

Prayer for Salvation:

God in Heaven, I come to You in the name of Your Son, Jesus. I confess that I haven’t lived my life for You. I believe that Jesus is the Son of God. I believe that He died on the cross and rose again from the dead so I might have a better life now and eternal life in heaven. Jesus, come into my heart and be my Lord and Savior. From this day forward, I’ll live my life for You to the best of my ability. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.

  1. Feeling stuck is not the best feeling. Being promoted by God on the other hand is the best feeling you can have. I have known both; I must say that being promoted is the best 🙂 There are times that I love to go the extra mile and then there are times that I just don’t want to do it, but after reading your post today I will do whatever it takes to go that extra mile…thanks!

  2. Ruben Goubler says

It is not a fun place to be where you’re stuck and especially not when you realize it too late. God always has a way to get us out or to get us promoted; I love that. the only thing we need to do is to humble ourselves. Yes, I make a choice to go the extra mile in any given opportunity where I can do something about it; thanks!
