61 Live as a Champion

Live as a Champion

But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ
and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of him.
2 Cor.2:14 NIV

You have watched the Olympics one time or another, haven’t you? Athletes, and their trainers, from many nations will gather together, putting their skills, honed by years of preparation, to the test. They will compete to be recognized as a champion in their field. What is unique about champion?

Champions are of a different breed. They have obtained expert training toward their goal, to bring out their best. They are intensely focused on their goal. They are highly disciplined for the sake of their goal. And they crave achievement of their goal. Let’s look deeper.

Expert training

A wise adage states: “It takes a champion to train a champion.” I believe that. I know one thing for sure: a loser cannot train a champion, because he has never been there. He doesn’t know what it takes to get there.

We are in good hands because we know that we have the best possible trainer – the Lord – and He is definitely a champion! He has been there. He knows what it takes. And through the Holy Spirit, He trains and focuses us.

Focused on a goal
Champions direct all their attention toward their goal. They eliminate distractions that can drain them of time, energy, and resources and keep them from reaching their goal. In other words champions keep their priorities straight. Listen to the Spirit. Follow His lead, and focus on the goal. Start putting Him first.

God wants us to win. He wants us to complete our race. He wants us to cross the finish line, but that only comes by putting Him first. Every day. All the time.

Disciplined for the sake of a goal
Many times, we as Christians refer ourselves as disciples of Christ. The word disciple comes from the word discipline. In other words, a disciple is “a disciplined one.” It is time for us to be real disciples of Christ. It’s time for us to be disciplined ones in our walk with Him, disciplined toward the goal.

Crave achievement of their goal
Our goal is to bring glory to God, and to commune with Him.
Think about it. Do you crave time with God? I’m not talking about reading your Bible for ten hours at a time. I am talking about having a hunger, a burning desire, for God.

While pregnant, I craved the strangest things. When you crave something, you’ll do anything you can to get it. And if you don’t get it, you’re really disappointed.

Look for ways to rearrange your schedule to make time for Him. Begin with turning off the television once in awhile and spending time with Him instead. I promise you, it will change your life! He will talk to you. He will use you, and He will bless you.

Will you make a choice today to crave Him to the point that you’ll be disappointed and let down if you’re not able to spend time with Him?  Now, that’s the choice-driven life!

The Most Important Choice You Can Make:

Prayer for Salvation:

God in Heaven, I come to You in the name of Your Son, Jesus. I confess that I haven’t lived my life for You. I believe that Jesus is the Son of God. I believe that He died on the cross and rose again from the dead so I might have a better life now and eternal life in heaven. Jesus, come into my heart and be my Lord and Savior. From this day forward, I’ll live my life for You to the best of my ability. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.

Making a choice to crave Him to the point that I’ll be disappointed and let down if I am not able to spend time with Him, that is quite a statement. But that is what it comes down to when we really desire to build a relationship with our heavenly Father. Thank you for the challenge.
