29 Let the Good Shepherd Lead You

Let the Good Shepherd Lead You

Let the Good Shepherd Lead You

The LORD is my shepherd; I have all that I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; He leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to His name.
Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for You are close beside me. Your rod and Your staff protect and comfort me. You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You honor me by anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings. Surely Your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the LORD forever. Psalm 23:1-6

It is very important to remember that God’s provision is found along the path that He is leading you. Sometimes, God will lead you through territory that is different from what you expect. You may not understand what God is doing and even think you are on the wrong path. You compare yourself with others who failed by taking this path, and fear failure for yourself.

Our pride deceives us into thinking that we know the path to our blessing. Humility seeks the Shepherd’s path and trusts the Lord to bless. Remember, there is only one Shepherd. Everyone else is a sheep. Too many believers want to be the shepherd of their lives, to call the shots on everything. They want it their way and they don’t want to yield to the Shepherd.

It is the job of a shepherd is to watch over the sheep: He leads and the sheep follow, He calls and the sheep come. But sometimes, sheep go astray.

And while everybody else grazes in green pastures, filling themselves on what God has for them, the wandering sheep grow hungry and weak. Is this like you?

Do you wonder why things are not happening for you? Could it be that you have strayed from the Shepherd and His path? The Holy Spirit is always leading and guiding you, but He also will restore you after you taken a wrong turn. If you make a choice to allow Him to do so, the Holy Spirit will guide you along the unique way that leads to restoration and fulfilment of the great purposes God has for your life.

How do you return to the path the Shepherd has laid out for you?

It’s done in prayer and only in prayer. You cannot skimp on prayer and expect to know God’s direction for your life. Spending time with God sensitizes your spirit to the voice of the Lord, allowing you to know the direction the Holy Ghost is headed.

The Shepherd wants to lead you in green and luscious pastures. There is great provision for you there, but you have to allow Him to be in charge. You have to stay with the Shepherd and follow him. If you go off on your own, you will miss out on good pasture grazing, and waste a great deal of time.

When you make a choice to allow the Lord to be your Shepherd, you shall not want anything. He will make you lie down in green pastures and lead you beside still waters. These provisions only come when you allow the Shepherd to lead you in every area of your life. Will you make the choice?

Will you choose to  allow the Shepherd to lead you in every area of your life? Now, that’s the choice-driven life!

The Most Important Choice You Can Make:

Prayer for Salvation:

God in Heaven, I come to You in the name of Your Son, Jesus. I confess that I haven’t lived my life for You. I believe that Jesus is the Son of God. I believe that He died on the cross and rose again from the dead so I might have a better life now and eternal life in heaven. Jesus, come into my heart and be my Lord and Savior. From this day forward, I’ll live my life for You to the best of my ability. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.

Comments

  1. I battled so hard against allowing God to rule my life and to be my Shepherd. But it was only through that surrender that I was set free!

    • Yes, you mentioned the right word Carolyn, surrender is the key. God cannot do anything in our life when we do not surrender!

  2. I love your first line, especially, Olga! “…God’s provision is found along the path that He is leading you…”

The Lakota taught me this important lesson, and oh how valuable it is! But, also, how hard it is because it means trusting, walking in blind faith! What a powerful article… and I had to keep reading Abraham Lincoln’s quote over and over… it’s one to really ponder! Thank you, Olga!!!

    • Thanks Susan, I always enjoy your comments. It is true that God’s provision is found along the path that He is leading you; He always leads us to places with a purpose and that purpose is always for our good. He is a good God!

  3. This is very fitting for me right now. What a great article… one I should probably reread, reread, and then reread again! 🙂
