22 Wanting Nothing

Wanting Nothing

And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
James 1:4 ESV

Do you think you can rejoice in the midst of trials? James 1:2-3 tells us that we should rejoice in difficult situations, knowing that through them God tests our faith to bring out patience. God gives you and me the ability to overcome every temptation that we encounter.

God allows tough situations in our lives in order to refine us and bring us closer to Him. We should approach these times with a right attitude and seek wisdom from God. One thing we know is that He will NEVER abandon us during a period of trial and testing.

God tells you to rejoice in the very face of tests, trials and temptations. When you do that, you release your faith, and the power of God goes forth to overcome any barrier. Your rejoicing is in God, not in the test, trial, or temptation.

Many people misunderstand these verses, so they can’t take advantage of them. When you give thanks for temptations, you actually open the door for more tests and trials to come. But when you learn to thank God for His grace; His ability in your life to overcome the situation that you are in, you will see that you become stronger through the process.

When we keep complaining, having pity parties or walk in pride, anger or rebellion, nothing will change. Until we face and deal with these ungodly traits, nothing good will happen. We need to learn that doing things our way is not the best way, usually not even a good way.
There are two ways to handle temptations; the natural way and the spiritual way. James 1:5-6 tells us that we can ask God what to do when we have problems and He will answer us. Maybe not immediately, but He will answer us; He loves to help.

How do you respond when you are in a trial or a temptation, maybe from people at work, school, family, or people at the grocery store? Your first reaction during these times reflects who you are. What do you need to change; are you starting today?

As you rejoice in God’s help to overcome the trial, you will be standing on the Word in faith. This is called patience or steadfastness.  God promises that you will be perfect and entire, wanting nothing?James 1:4

Will you make a deliberate choice today to be patient and consistent?  Now, that’s the choice-driven life!

The Most Important Choice You Can Make:

Prayer for Salvation:

God in Heaven, I come to You in the name of Your Son, Jesus. I confess that I haven’t lived my life for You. I believe that Jesus is the Son of God. I believe that He died on the cross and rose again from the dead so I might have a better life now and eternal life in heaven. Jesus, come into my heart and be my Lord and Savior. From this day forward, I’ll live my life for You to the best of my ability. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.

Wanting nothing, what a place to be.I am still struggling to give all my cares and all my needs to Him. It’s so easy to do it myself and struggle through things, but it’s certainly NOT the best option.

  2. Kathlyn Moore says

Rejoicing in the midst of trials is a big challenge for me. I love that you explain to us that we can make a choice, either we handle our challenges the natural way or the spiritual way. I know that I cannot keep complain all the time; it doesn’t feel good and it doesn’t bring me anything.

  3. Challenges…everyday has its own challenges. Each challenge can be handled the same way…through Christ. That is to be the only solution daily. Keep your walk in the Lord fully activated in all situations. The peace that passes all understanding will remain when we respond God’s way to people, places and things that bring challenges. We are to wear this world (which is not our home) as a loose garment. We are just passing through on our way to a place perpared just for those who live, move and have their being in GOD. Have a “SHALOM DAY” 🙂

    • Thank you so much for your great comment; you are encouraging me and many of our readers! Every day has its challenges, but we are made more than overcomers.

  4. Such a wonderful article with great insight. So true that we should thank God for who He is instead of the trial itself. Understanding The Word of God is so vital to our walk with Him
