What Do You Want to Know About Your Future?

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil,
to give you a future and a hope.
Jeremiah 29:11 ESV

All of us want to know what is ahead of us and where we are going. We all know that God has a plan for us; a plan that is for our good. The Holy Spirit guides us into all truth;  John 16:13. God knew that we needed help to understand His plan for us, so He sent the Holy Spirit to dwell inside every Christian. He is our Guide, our Teacher of truth, our Counsellor, and our Helper. He is also our Comforter.

Our future doesn’t have to be a mystery for us, because the Holy Spirit knows all about the things to come. He is familiar with everything that is ahead of us. Jesus promised that when the Spirit of the Truth, our Friend would come  He would take us by the hand and guide us into all the truth there is. He will tell you only what he has heard from God, and he will let you know what is going to happen.

Have you made an effort lately to sit down and be quiet on the inside of you, which means that all thoughts are towards the Father? This is a discipline in itself because our mind wants to go and think on whatever pops up. We can pray and our mind is making up the shopping list.

But if we really want to hear from God, we need to focus with everything that is within us on God and only on God. Then you will hear what He has to say about your future. God is not a respector of persons and promises that we all are able to hear from Him and experience the help from the Holy Spirit.

I remember the time that I was working in the office of our bible school in Tulsa; it was a moment that the office was filling up with students who had questions. There was an excitement going on because everybody was chatting and laughing and so on. All of a sudden somebody comes in with a walkie talkie and my husband’s voice was coming through on that walkie talkie. In the midst of all that buzz, I recognized his voice. It made everybody laugh, but that is how it should be with hearing the voice of the Holy Spirit.

He is always talking to us, but do we know His voice enough to recognize Him. We learn to recognize His voice in those moments that we are quiet before Him and listen.

God can give us a “sense” about some things that are coming, like a “heads up”. It is always a good thing to watch for the things that the Holy Spirit wants to show us and then follow His guidance.

That was one of the stories that people told on 9/11 who worked in the World Trade Center buildings and sensed; they had an inner witness to go later to work only to discover the Holy Spirit was protecting them.

People have been blessed in many ways sensing that the Holy Spirit was leading them in different directions to buy a certain piece of property or that they should invest in this company or that stock; they should prepare for this and that—because the Holy Spirit gave them that supernatural “hunch” and they followed it.

Will you believe that God doesn’t always give us the whole scoop of everything that we like to know, but that He gives us enough to make a step towards our destiny, so that we are able to make certain decisions and to obey His voice. Now, that’s the choice-driven life!

The Most Important Choice You Can Make:

Prayer for Salvation:

God in Heaven, I come to You in the name of Your Son, Jesus. I confess that I haven’t lived my life for You. I believe that Jesus is the Son of God. I believe that He died on the cross and rose again from the dead so I might have a better life now and eternal life in heaven. Jesus, come into my heart and be my Lord and Savior. From this day forward, I’ll live my life for You to the best of my ability. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.

I loved this devotion; I love the examples that you gave. Isn’t it awesome how real the Holy Spirit can be sometimes? It gives me so much trust and confidence that I can be in the right place at the right time. Thanks!!

  2. Gen 50:15, 20 True forgiveness does not rehash and repay the past offenses that have been brought under the blood.

Genesis 50:20 This verse is a great comfort to any who have suffered unjustly. God is able to transform tragic circumstances into good. We do not cross the line into saying God caused the evil, or the injustice. Those evil things result from the fallen condition of man and our world. But because of the Lord’s power and rulership, He is able to bring glory to Himself with any surrendered heart no matter what the difficulty or circumstance – He ‘turns’ it, confounding the devil’s plan. God is much bigger than the devil!

  3. In Galatians 4:18, the Apostle Paul gives some clear instruction about zeal: “it is fine to be zealous, provided the purpose is good, and to be so always and not just when I am with you.” It is possible that as you consider the question, ‘what are you about?’ you’re unsatisfied with your answer because you’re zealous for something that isn’t really good. It is also possible that your answer to that same question would be different depending on who you are with or how you happen to feel at a certain time. It’s so important to recognize if that is the case; even more important is to make changes so that it is not. “Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord”(Romans 12:11).

  4. Shalom, I PRAISE God for your obedience to Him, Olga. I know that these devotions are Holy Spirit directed because each feeds me with the spiritual meal I need each day. Today’s lesson is no exception. When we LISTEN and MOVE when the Holy Spirit directs us to move, we find treasures that would otherwise be hidden. Since all things are revealed through Him we need only follow, trust and obey. Yesterday, I was led to call the telephone company to address billing. There were fees that had been waived but were not yet removed. Usually it takes a couple of billings before such transactions will post, however, I was being led to deal with removal yesterday, and so I did. After going through the system several calls, being put on hold , dropped in the process of transfer, I finally received a representative who said, she would stay with me until resolved. It was handled immediately, $124.95 reduced to $16.20. I immediately went into PRAISE for I knew this was God ordained. Our heavenly Father has many blessings for us each day and wants to get them to us. He speaks, we LISTEN and OBEY. He holds our yesterdays, todays and tomorrows always in His hands. God is SPEAKING…are we LISTENING and OBEYING?
“Tis so sweet to TRUST in JESUS…just to take HIM at His WORD….”

  5. this devotion is inspering and instructive. but ma how will one actually know the voice of the holy ghost?. you know that has being a challenge for many of us today

    • Hi Ogah, there is more than one way to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit. Sometimes we know from hindsight how he has guided us through certain situations; that is a great way for you to start recognizing how He does lead you and guide you. But then there is that still small voice on the inside of you that gives you instructions and tells you how much the Father loves you. Let me know if this is of help to you, ok?
