Be Still and Know That God Is God

Be still and know that I Am God…
Psalm 46:10

It takes time to really get to know a person. It takes a great deal of time to progress from an acquaintance to an intimate companion.

It’s the same with God: to really get to know Him, we must spend time with Him. It doesn’t really matter how long we have known Him, we can never stop pursuing more of Him. Each thing we learn about Him, opens yet more doors to the things that we don’t yet know about Him.

Psalm 46 states that God is a Mighty Warrior (Lord of Hosts): “God is our Refuge and Strength, a very present help in trouble…” then goes on to praise His awesome acts and His faithfulness to protect and defend His people. The flow then stops abruptly and God says: “Be still and know that I Am God.”

There are times we receive a scripture from God for a specific season in our life. It is exactly what we need for that particular moment. The word from God is an intimate interaction that comes out of spending time with Him. When we receive a word from God, He wants to show us the end from the beginning. He wants to reveal our future and our hope to us. That is how He works.

But often, when after some time, the excitement of our perfectly tailored scripture subsides, we become discouraged, wondering if our situation will ever change. In the middle of it all, we may not be able to think of another scripture or something else to pray. This is the time to be still and know that He is God. It is time to stop everything, put a pause on thinking about our circumstances and ponder His faithfulness and love for us.

God is not a like the person who promises something good and then denies it to us. No. When God promises something, we can count on its authenticity and its credibility. That’s His character.

When we are fully persuaded regarding what God has spoken to us, we must seek Him in stillness and know that He will cause us to inherit what He’s promised. When we take the time to be quiet and wait in the stillness of His presence, we encounter the hiding place of His power for everything that we will ever need. So take hold of Psalm 46 and be strengthened and encouraged by His faithfulness and His love towards you. And simply be still and know that He is God!

Will you choose to seek God in stillness? Now, that’s the choice-driven life!
