God Created You to Be In Relationship

Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God;
and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
I John 4:17

Today, I’d like to challenge your thinking about your relationships with others. God IS love and is all about love. Just as Jesus’ love was directed toward others, God commands us to love one another. We are created in God’s image and God wants to be in relationship with us. We are imitators of God and therefore we seek to be in relationship with (love) others.

It’s time to be honest with ourselves about relationships. Many times we are most comfortable in situations where we can keep people at a distance. People and relationships are challenging. They can often bring out the worst in us. But the life of God within us requires us to be open to others.

When we desire to have an intimate relationship with the Father and His people, we need a heart that is opened to being transformed. We need our hearts to be whole because then, and only then, are we able to build open relationships with people around us.

If you really believe you love God but have a hard time getting along with people, then you’ve deceived yourself. It is impossible to love God, whom you haven’t seen, if you don’t love the people who surround you.

First John 4:20 says: “If anyone boasts, “I love God,” and goes right on hating his brother or sister, thinking nothing of it, he is a liar. If he won’t love the person he can see, how can he love the God he can’t see?” Keep in mind that God said in Matthew 22:37-39, you cannot love the Lord with all your heart without loving your neighbour as yourself. You need to develop intimate relationships with people.

I have heard people say: “I love the Lord, but I hate people.” That is impossible and God cannot honour such an attitude. Instead we should say: “I love people and people love me.” You see, we are all made in His likeness and image. So, in a way it is impossible to hate people, because then you wouldn’t really love God who created all men, right?

Sometimes I hear people say that they are going to the mountains to get close to the Lord. But a more direct route is to go to church and be among other Believers. God promises His presence “where two or more are gathered in My Name.”

Psalm 92:13 says: “Those who are planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God.” Put simply, God will cause us to flourish as we interact with others. When we have relationships with those of like heart, it builds us up and we grow stronger in God. That is God’s way. I guarantee you, you will not be able to “fly solo” in eternity. You will be elbow–to-elbow with the heavenly throng, praising God.

I challenge you to look into your heart and do a check-up on your relationships. Do you have an open and loving heart or do you avoid getting involved with the humanity for which God sent His only Son to die?

Will you choose to love others and be loved in return? Now, that’s the choice driven life!

The Most Important Choice You Can Make: Prayer for Salvation: God in Heaven, I come to You in the name of Your Son, Jesus. I confess that I haven’t lived my life for You. I believe that Jesus is the Son of God. I believe that He died on the cross and rose again from the dead so I might have a better life now and eternal life in heaven. Jesus, come into my heart and be my Lord and Savior. From this day forward, I’ll live my life for You to the best of my ability. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen. Click Here if you need more information.

  1. Wonderful post Olga! Isn’t love what it is all about – loving one another. It’s also a huge challenge! I totally agree with you that life isn’t just about loving God it is about loving others! This sentence stood out for me today ‘I guarantee you, you will not be able to “fly solo” in eternity.’ What a amazing promise. Thank you Olga!

  2. Thank you for your great post on relationships Olga, it is so important that we love people equally, and also very important to be in the presence of God’s people. I have the privilege of being part of a great church in London, http://www.kt.org . I also have some great spirit filled friends who have a passion for the things of God, it is so important that we surround ourselves with spirit filled Christians as this helps us to grow and also be accountable!
