Make An Important Choice To Be Joyful

Worship the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.
Enter His gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.
Psalm 100: 2,4

Do you know people who seem to ALWAYS be joyful? They have one principle in their lives and one only: to be joyful! Each morning we should enter God’s presence with joy, expecting to hear from Him and ponder what he tells us throughout the day. In the presence of the Lord there is fullness of joy (Psalm 16:11).

The Holy Spirit prompts us to rejoice so we can be filled with Him. There are times that I am joyful and there are other times that I must make a choice to be filled with the Holy Spirit – especially when the worries and cares of this world have worn me out. It’s at these times I know I need a dose of the Holy Ghost that can only be found in the presence of God.

Paul said in Ephesians 5:18, “And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit.” In the Greek, the words be filled are literally translated “be being filled.” In other words, be in a constant state of being filled with the Spirit, who brings us joy.

Everyone requires continuous refilling. We behave differently when we are filled with the Holy Spirit. We may leave church happy, filled with the Spirit, but then get in the car and begin whining and complaining. Some of our “filling” has leaked out. We need to be refilled.

God desires to change our minds through the power of the Holy Spirit. Have you ever heard someone say, “That blows my mind”? Taken literally, it means that one has lost the capacity to think or reason. That’s not how the Holy Spirit works. When we make a quality choice to yield our minds to Him, He enhances everything about how we think and our capacity to experience joy.

Smith Wigglesworth said it this way: “As you yield to the Spirit of the Lord He has power over your intellect, over your heart, and over your voice. The Holy Spirit has power to reveal Christ and to increase the vision of Christ upon the canvas of our mind, and then choose to use our tongue to glorify and magnify Him in a way that we could never do apart from the power of the Holy Spirit.”

Some people don’t experience joy because they have restrained the Holy Ghost in their lives and are afraid to let Him loose. They find it difficult to hear His voice. It is sad because He is the one who fills us with joy by restoring our salvation to us.

When you respond to Him and act on the Word, joy and power are released. Supernatural results are supplied, meeting every need.
Will you choose joy unspeakable, full of God’s glory? That’s the choice driven life!

The Most Important Choice You Can Make: Prayer for Salvation: God in Heaven, I come to You in the name of Your Son, Jesus. I confess that I haven’t lived my life for You. I believe that Jesus is the Son of God. I believe that He died on the cross and rose again from the dead so I might have a better life now and eternal life in heaven. Jesus, come into my heart and be my Lord and Savior. From this day forward, I’ll live my life for You to the best of my ability. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen. Click Here if you need more information.

  1. Excellent devotional! Our circumstances in life should not affect our joy when it is found in Him. But it is so easy to get our eyes off of God and look at our circumstances and get off track. It is possible to choose joy even in the midst of hard situations if you surrender your situation to God and truly trust Him. You know you are a mature Christian when nothing you go through can steal your joy.

  2. This is a great reminder that no matter what life brings us, we can choose to find happiness and contentment in it (JOY) and go through it knowing God will faithfully bring us to the other side. I recently heard an amazing teaching on joy… and this article sums it up greatly! Good post!

  3. Wonderful encouragement! I know I chose to be in peace and flow with God’s joy when I was hospice care for my Dad, and God honored my prayers each and every day. Choose life! Thank you!
