08 Make Room For The Supernatural

Make Room For The Supernatural

One day Elisha went on to Shunem, where a wealthy woman lived, who urged him to eat some food.
So whenever he passed that way, he would turn in there to eat food. And she said to her husband,
“Behold now, I know that this is a holy man of God who is continually passing our way.
Let us make a small room on the roof with walls and put there for him
a bed, a table, a chair, and a lamp, so that whenever he comes to us, he can go in there.”

2 Kings 4:8-10

Many times we are not thinking about making room for the supernatural in our lives.

The Shunammite woman in 2 Kings 4 made room for the supernatural when she made a place for it to abide in her life. The more she valued it, the more it worked in her behalf. 2 Kings 4:8-10

Because she made a room for the prophet to reside in, it is symbolic of her giving the supernatural power of God the highest place in her life.

She reverenced and served the man of God thereby causing the anointing that was on Elisha to work in her behalf. She did not have an ulterior motive other than to make room for the supernatural. When Elisha told her she would have a child, it was a desire of her heart but not something she put before making room for the supernatural.

When her son died, she took him right back to the room of the supernatural. She did not cry about it or tell others what had happened. She simply stated that “it shall be well” 2 Kings 4:23

She then sought after the supernatural, the man of God and even though Elisha sent Gehazi with his staff, which is representative of the authority of God, she did not leave the supernatural.

Because of the honor she placed on the supernatural, she received the restoration of her son.

We also are to believe for the supernatural. The power of God is supernatural and as sons of God, we are to live, walk and pray in the supernatural. This is the way Jesus did it and this is the way it is to be for us.

Prayer is always to be supernatural because of the divine One living on the inside of you. According to Ephesians 6:18, we pray with all kinds of prayer but there are only two Intercessors and we are not one of them. The Bible says that daily, Jesus makes intercession for us and we cannot affect His prayers. The other Intercessor is the Holy Spirit and we either help Him or frustrate His prayers.

In John 14:6-7, Jesus was teaching His disciples that when it was time for Him to go to His Father, He would not leave them alone but send them Someone Who would enable them to walk in the same light and power that He walked in.

We are to always be making room for the supernatural. In 2 Kings 4 starting in verse 8, we see that the Shunammite woman esteemed the anointing which is represented by the prophet Elisha. She continued to esteem it until it took center stage in her life. Each time the anointing passed by, she made room for it and received it but she went from being easily entreated to making a habitation for it.

Not only did she pursue the supernatural, but she contended for it when she went to get the man of God when her son died. Even though Elisha sent his servant Gehazi to go to the child, she stayed with the anointing that brought her the blessing the first time.

If you read the account in Luke 14:1-11, you will see how Jesus made room for the supernatural to flow. He saw the Holy Spirit moving on the man with dropsy and chose to yield to the supernatural so that he could be healed.

We work with the Holy Spirit by reserving a place in our heart for Him. We are to constantly be giving Him first priority so that the supernatural power of God can flow through us anytime, anywhere.

As you pray, make a choice to purpose to make room for the supernatural by yielding to the Holy Spirit and responding to Him. When we do, limits are removed off of God that we have placed on Him causing us to go further and higher into God.

Will you choose to make room for the supernatural from now on? Now, that’s the choice-driven life!

The Most Important Choice You Can Make:

Prayer for Salvation:

God in Heaven, I come to You in the name of Your Son, Jesus. I confess that I haven’t lived my life for You. I believe that Jesus is the Son of God. I believe that He died on the cross and rose again from the dead so I might have a better life now and eternal life in heaven. Jesus, come into my heart and be my Lord and Savior. From this day forward, I’ll live my life for You to the best of my ability. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.

  1. When you read Genesis 21:1-3 you read about Abraham and Sarah had to waith a long time before God’s promise came to pass, but it finally did. What promises of God are you waiting to have fulfilled in your life?

  2. Great post! When we pray His Word, too, it keeps us in line with Jesus’ and the Holy Spirit’s prayers for us, because we are praying God’s will. Powerful, powerful stuff!!!

  3. Great message Olga.
I think the ultimate example of making room for the supernatural is Mary.
I need to make sure that my prayer life during the day is more present to allow God more space to speak to me.

  4. It’s like she was sowing into the supernatural realm, by investing in and making room in her heart and home for the “holy man of God”. The New Testament records this truth, that if we even give a cup of water to a “holy man” – or someone who is busy doing the Lord’s own work – we receive a holy man’s reward.

This article reminds me of the importance of sowing into people and projects that we want more of in our own lives… not only to bless them, because we honor God and what He’s doing in them, but because we also honor the gift and the anointing flowing through their lives. It’s something I’ve been thinking about lately… so I’m so glad I read your article, Olga – thanks!
